Midtown Restaurant and Lounge is a historic site in Alton that dates back to the turn of the century.  The second floor had clubrooms in which community groups such as St. Patrick’s Young Men’s Club held meetings.  After many years, the earth beneath the building was excavated and the first floor lounge was created.  Midtown has had several owners.  The Elsner family purchased the business in 1954 and was joined by Bob and Dorothy Metzger in 1958.  Painted in acrylic over screen print on a 14 by 18 canvas.
