The town is Alton, Illinois. A young man meets the girl of his dreams at a dance held in the school Administration Building. The couple plans to meet for a date on the following evening. The girl fails to show up for the date for an unknown reason. A friend informs him that she has left for Chicago, but provides a forwarding address for him to write. The young man writes often, but never receives a response. A year passes and the young man feels that he may never see his sweetheart again. Then he remembers the date of October tenth! That was the date they had originally planned to meet. He returns to the site of their meeting exactly a year later, in hopes that she will somehow remember their special date. What he discovers on that date becomes the most important surprise of his life!
